Dirty Dozen and Our Commitment to Organic Produce | | By Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage
| One of the founding principles of Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage is a commitment to quality. We are also committed to our customers' health and the health of the
environment. That is why Natural Grocers only sells certified organic produce --
you will never find conventional produce at any of our stores.
Research has shown that organic farming reduces the toxic burden on our bodies and the environment,
builds healthy soils, promotes biodiversity, and produces food that is higher in nutrients, including
vitamins, minerals, and health-promoting phytonutrients, such as antioxidants and bioflavonoids.
After analyzing nearly 87,000 pesticide residue tests collected by both the USDA and the FDA, The
Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit consumer and environmental advocacy group, has
compiled a list of the 12 most heavily contaminated fruits and vegetables.
These are the "Dirty Dozen" and should be bought organically-grown whenever possible: - Peaches
- Apples
- Bell peppers
- Celery
- Nectarines
- Strawberries
- Cherries
- Kale
- Lettuce
- Grapes (imported)
- Carrots
- Pears
