How to determine your optimal intake of carbohydrates

Tuning in to how your body and mind react to the foods you eat is a BIG part of discovering the diet that’s right for your biochemistry. This document will help you to determine the carbohydrate intake that is best for you. Not sure what a carbohydrate is? See the handout Natural Foods for Optimal Health.

How to use this document:

  • Within 1 to 2 hours of eating a meal or snack, fill out the following questionnaire.

  •  After you’ve checked all of the phrases that describe your body response, add up the total number of checks in each column.

  • If the total in the second column is greater than the total in the third column, you are eating an amount of carbohydrates that is suited for your body.

  • If the total in the third column is greater than the total in the second column, then the amount of carbohydrates you are eating is too high or too low.

  • To determine which, adjust the amount in your next meal and see how you feel.
