Senators are elected to six year terms. Each state has two senators regardless of the population or size of the state. Senatorial elections are staggered so that about one third of the Senate is up for relection every two years. Both senators represent the interests of their entire state. Senate legislation begins in one of dozens of Senate committees, which have been delegated authority over specific issues.
Although any senator can take an interest in any issue at the committee level, a senator has the most influence and can be most effective on issues related to the committees of which he or she is a member. Read more about Senate and House committees here. Please note that we endeavor here to present only those issues most relevant to our company's mission; we encourage everyone to make up their own mind about each officeholder based on the entire range of issues that may matter most to each of you.
