Recall Notice: Products containing peanuts from Peanut Corporation of America Background Peanut Corporation of America has filed bankruptcy after being closed by the FDA and state Health Departments for operating unsanitary processing plants. PCA peanuts from the Georgia and Texas processing plants have been linked by the FDA and CDC to an increase in a particular type of salmonella food poisoning across the country. People infected with salmonella usually develop diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. Illness usually lasts four to seven days and most people recover without treatment. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness. The fresh ground peanut butter made in Vitamin Cottage stores used PCA peanuts up until January 30th, when the company recalled all PCA peanut products and removed them from its stores.

Other Product Recalls The one specific peanut butter manufacturer involved in the salmonella outbreak primarily supplies regular peanut butter to institutions and food service applications, but
they also supply a peanut butter paste to companies that use it as an ingredient in other food items (cookies, crackers, bars, etc). As they are investigating that production
facility, the search is broadening as they trace product sent to ingredient manufacturers, copackers, and suppliers, so we are now seeing some product recalls of natural
brands as they are hearing from copackers and contractors. In many cases, they are making a preventative recall (product had tested as fine in early quality control
checks) - it's not necessarily that their product was shown to have salmonella. This is part of a safety recall, trying to remove any product that could possibly have had
peanut paste from that facility. Here are the recall notices we have received & complied with already; customers can return products to us for a full refund, or in many
cases, an 800# is included in the notice that customers can call to get an immediate refund on products already purchased from any retailer.
