FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 12, 2010 – Lakewood, Colorado – In response to a recall commenced by its supplier, Frontier Natural Products Co-op, Norway, Iowa, for items manufactured with non-organic black pepper, Natural Grocers is voluntarily recalling two products that were sold in bulk form in pre-priced bags. The black pepper in the items may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
"Consumption of products containing Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain."
The following items sold in our retail stores in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Utah are subject to this recall:
Pre-priced bulk bags of: "Curry Powder Blend" with packed on dates of 34, 35, 36, 37, 67, 68, 69, 70; and "Garlic & Herbs Blend" with packed on dates of 15, 16, 17, 18, 48, 49, 50.
To date no known illnesses have been associated with these products. However, since customer safety is our top priority, Natural Grocers has voluntarily recalled these products.
