Dr. Karen Bender

Dr. Karen Bender is the Naturopathic Doctor at the new integrative medical clinic in Idaho Falls, The Healing Sanctuary. She received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Arizona. Her integration of these two disciplines allows her to offer a unique perspective on health. Dr. Bender’s medical career began as an elementary school nurse in Southern Arizona. While she loved this work, she wanted to have more tools to help families deal with all too common illnesses such as Asthma, Diabetes, chronic headaches, and ADHD.  To do so, she decided to attend the United States’ foremost institution of science-based natural medicine, Bastyr University. The services she provides at The Healing Sanctuary are focused on finding the root cause of illness. She collaborates with patients to develop personalized nutrition and lifestyle plans to support optimal well-being that treat the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. Dr. Bender deeply believes that food is medicine that has the power to heal profoundly.  She specializes in stress management, nutritional counseling, weight loss, digestive problems, insomnia, thyroid disease, food and seasonal allergies, autoimmune disease, anxiety, depression and fatigue. She is a member of the Idaho and Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians as well as the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She speaks Spanish competently. When she is not in the clinic, Dr. Bender enjoys dance, rock climbing, and yoga.
