Rachel Fischer, MD, MPH

Dr. Fischer, board certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine, joined University of Western States to begin a practice focused in functional medicine. She’s an avid believer in “food and exercise as medicine” – a philosophy she adopted long before becoming a physician. Dr. Fischer first obtained a journalism degree and discovered her passion for public health while working as a technical writer in the health insurance industry. After then receiving a master’s degree in public health, she joined the U.S. Peace Corps and served in Nepal where she worked on community prevention programs to improve pulmonary health, maternal and child survival and treatment of diarrheal diseases. Wanting the knowledge to care for the individual as well as the public, she chose to become a physician after returning to the United States. Dr. Fischer completed her medical degree and internal medicine residency at the University of Utah.
