Grilled Honeydew Skewers

Grilled Honeydew Skewers

Grilled fruit is a perfect summer treat to accompany any meal. Here, we take sweet and succulent honeydew, brush it with a sweet and spicy glaze, and grill it until it takes on a deep caramelized flavor from the grill. Finished with a sprinkle of chili powder, the sweet and savory flavors are too good to resist! Note: This recipe works best with a perfectly ripe and firm melon.

6-8
1 medium organic honeydew melon (4-5 pounds), cut into 2-inch cubes
1⁄4 cup Natural Grocers® Brand Organic Apricot Preserves
1 teaspoon grated organic lemon zest
1 tablespoon organic lemon juice
1 tablespoon finely chopped Natural Grocers Brand Bulk Organic Crystallized Ginger
Natural Grocers Brand Bulk Organic Medium Chili Powder Blend, to taste
Organic lemon wedges, optional for serving
Optional seasonings
Natural Grocers Brand Bulk Organic Ground Cinnamon, Cloves, Cumin, or Coriander
  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high (400-450˚ F).
  2. Thread the prepared honeydew onto metal or wooden skewers that have been soaked in water for 20-30 minutes. Set aside while you make the glaze.
  3. Combine the apricot preserves, lemon zest, lemon juice, and ginger in a small bowl and stir until well combined.
  4. Using a pastry brush or a small spoon, spread the glaze evenly over the honeydew.
  5. Once the grill is hot, carefully grease it with olive oil using tongs and a paper towel. Grill for approximately 5 minutes per side, basting with any leftover glaze as they cook.
  6. Remove the skewers from the grill and sprinkle with desired amount of chili powder or optional preferred seasoning before serving.
