Chief Garry Park - Spokane, WA

Chief Garry Park Playground

In 1932, a Spokane city park , was named after Chief Spokane Garry, chief of the Spokane Tribe, not far from where he had run his horses. The neighborhood funded a new memorial to Chief Garry in 2011. Spokane Garry's face once again looks out over his old homeland. The park is only one block wide and four blocks long, and is still an important place for neighborhood events, sports and community gatherings. The City of Spokane considers this organic conversion project as an example and pilot project for other landscapes in the metropolitan area. The City’s Sustainability Action Subcommittee is a key supporter of this project.
